Amazon files lawsuit against fake review fraudsters

Amazon has filed legal action against administrators of more than 10,000 fake review Facebook groups.

These groups are set up to recruit individuals willing to post misleading reviews on Amazon stores based in several countries, including the UK.

Amazon will use information discovered within this legal action to identify and remove fake reviews.

Fraudsters behind the groups seek reviews for products available for sale on Amazon. Investigations have revealed that the group’s administrators, some of which had more than 43,000 members, attempted to hide their activity.

Amazon has more than 12,000 employees around the world dedicated to protecting stores from fraud and abuse, including fake reviews.

The company have a team investigating fake review schemes on social media sites and regularly reporting the groups to companies such as Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and Twitter.

Amazon has reported more than 10,000 fake review groups to Meta since 2020 and more than half the groups have been taken down for policy violations.
