During a stand-up set on 8th April, Chris Rock reportedly addressed the incident with Will Smith at the 2022 Academy Awards.
Rock made a joke about Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, saying “Jada, I love you. GI Jane 2, can’t wait to see you,” in reference to her shaved head.
Last year, Pinkett Smith stated that she shaved her head after struggling with alopecia. Smith walked on stage and slapped Rock, before shouting twice: “Keep my wife’s name out your f***ing mouth.”
Smith won the Best Actor prize later in the ceremony and stated: “love will make you do crazy things” in a tearful acceptance speech. The Academy has since banned him from attending all events for ten years.
Last week, Chris Rock told an audience during a stand-up set that he was “still processing” what had happened.
Desert Sun, a California-based paper, quoted Rock’s statement at Friday night’s show in Fantasy Springs: “I’m OK, I have a whole show and I’m not talking about [the incident] until I get paid.”
He went on to joke: “Life is good. I got my hearing back.”
