Adele breaks into tears as she reunites with teacher

Adele broke down into tears as she reunited with a teacher who changed her life.

She made her UK comeback with a powerful show for ITV’s An Audience With, and was overcome with emotion when she realised her Year 8 teacher from Chestnut Grove School in Balham was there.

During the show, actress Emma Thompson asked Adele: “My question is, when you were younger, was there someone who, kind of supported you and inspired you, or, you know protected you from all the trials and tribulations of life and inspired you to go on?”

Adele replied: “Yeah I had a teacher at Chestnut Grove who taught me English. That was Miss McDonald. She left when I was in year eight. It was just one year, but she got me really into literature. I’ve always been obsessed with English and obviously now I write lyrics,

“She was so bloody cool. So engaging, she really made us care and we knew she cared about us.”

When Emma went on to say: “Yeah because it’s odd actually, funnily enough…”, Adele realised what was happening.

“Is she here?” Adele asked, looking into the audience as Emma replied: “She’s here tonight.”

Adele began to cry as she saw her old teacher walk through the crowd towards her, getting on stage and standing beside her.

They hugged for a moment before Miss McDonald told her: “Thank you for remembering me.”

Adele responded: “Oh my God, you really changed my life.”
